Can a VFD control several motors in parallel?

1–2 minutes

Yes, that is possible. We suggest selecting a drive that provides 10-20% more current than the sum of the motor currents.

  • The drive can only monitor the sum of motor currents. Therefore, each motor needs its own protection against overload and over-temperature. Standard circuit breakers cannot deal with the VFD’s switching noise, will overheat and become unreliable or damaged. The suggested solution is a PTC or temperature switch in the motor windings
  • In parallel applications, the motor cable length adds up from the perspective of parasitic capacitance. Follow the user manual’s instructions on maximum motor cable length. Most of the time, an AC output reactor or dv/dt filter will be necessary
